Kiln seasoning (kiln drying): A drying procedure that is primarily used to lower the moisture content of wood. The procedure is carried out in a sealed chamber, allowing for the most precise control of temperature, humidity, and airflow. Drying can be precisely regulated to cause shrinkage with the fewest possible degradation issues (cracking and splitting).
