Karst: A landscape that contains fissures, sinkholes, and cavities as the outcome of the bedrock material (such limestone or dolomite) being dissolved and dissolving away. Surface terrain frequently lacks vegetation and looks to be paved. The Burren on the west coast of Ireland is an illustration of a karst terrain.
