decibel (dB) is used to measure the intensity of sound. dB is a logarithmic scale which means that an increase of 10 dB indicates a tenfold increase in sound intensity. dB is commonly used to measure the sound levels of power tools and other equipment on a construction site. dB is also used to measure the sound insulation of walls and other building materials to ensure a comfortable environment in the building.
