Back cutting is a construction technique used to form a level platform for a new structure, such as a retaining wall or a building foundation. It involves cutting into a slope or hillside in a series of steps, to form a smooth, level surface for the new structure. Back cutting is typically done with a bulldozer, although it can also be done manually with hand tools.
