Acequia is a type of irrigation ditch commonly found in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It is a man–made channel used to bring water from a river or stream to agricultural land, and typically runs along an incline to ensure a steady flow of water. In some cases, the acequia is also used to provide water to a village or town.
