Independent float: A period of time before or after an activity that allows for some flexibility regarding the start or end of a task without impacting other duties that may follow. Tasks with float have the flexibility to begin as soon as a previous task completes or at a later time, within the designated float time, without affecting the start or finish dates of any following tasks.
