Handover (handing over): The building is handed back to the client when it has been completed, examined by the client’s representative, and possession is restored to the client. The defects liability period begins when the building is turned over; this is the period during which the building owner will be expected to identify flaws, which the contractor is required to return and correct. If the flaws have been corrected, any retention monies retained by the customer should be refunded at the conclusion of the defects liability period. If a flaw occurs beyond the defects liability period, the contractor must still correct it if it is the product of poor or faulty workmanship.
