Ball catch (bullet catch): a door fastener that consists of a spring-loaded ball installed inside the door’s mortise. The ball keeps the door closed by contacting a striking plate on the door jamb that has either a small indentation or a hole that the ball lies inside when the door is closed. When enough pressure is applied on the door so that the ball springs out of the divot or hole, the door is opened.
