Knoop hardness test: A method of testing a material’s resistance to surface abrasion or indentation. All hardness tests evaluate how quickly a diamond can imprint a substance. The Knoop hardness method involves pressing a rhombic-based pyramidal diamond indenter with predetermined edge angles into the surface of the test substance using calibrated machinery. The material’s firmness can be calculated by measuring the depth of the indentation.
