Backfill in construction is the process of packing or filling up the area behind a retaining wall or other permanent structure with soil, gravel, or other material. This is done to provide stability and support for the structure and to prevent water from collecting in the area. Backfill can also be used to level out uneven ground and provide a solid foundation for other building structures.
