Acetylene is a highly flammable gas commonly used in construction for welding and cutting. It is a colorless gas with a distinctively pungent odor, and is the simplest member of the hydrocarbon family. Acetylene is used in combination with oxygen to create a powerful flame for welding, cutting, and brazing metals. Acetylene is also used in oxy-acetylene torches for heating, soldering, and bending metal.
