Abrasion is the process of wearing away at a surface due to friction from another material. This can happen from natural forces such as wind, water and sand, as well as from manmade sources such as tools and machines. Abrasion can lead to the surface becoming worn down, scratched, dented or chipped in some cases. In construction, abrasion can be an issue on surfaces such as concrete, brick, stone and metal.
