Abatement of action is a legal term used to describe the discontinuation or dismissal of a lawsuit before it has been fully resolved. Abatement of action can occur for a variety of reasons, such as the death of a party, the settlement of a dispute between the parties, or the expiration of a statute of limitations. In some cases, the court may decide to abate the action due to procedural errors or a lack of evidence.
